Brescia Calcio are organising a summer school for young football players (boys and girls) born between years 1998 and 2005. This event is spread over two weeks (Monday to Saturday) between 8 and 20 July 2013. The Blu Camp is a one-time opportunity to acquire technical skills directly from Brescia Calcio professional staff specialised in youth football development at high level. The players will be exposed to unique training methods used by the Italian school of football. The coaches to be brought over are Massimo De Paoli, Marco Cristi and Matteo Camoni. De Paoli was responsible for the development of players like Pirlo, Hamsik, Baronio, Caracciolo and El Kaddouri during their youth days. Scouting will also be conducted by Brescia Calcio on each participant. Brescia Calcio are intensifying their efforts locally to search for the best local players. In fact, a number of players were sent to the Rome base of Brescia for a trial earlier this year. One particular young female player is also on their scout's radar and may also be offered a trial in the near future. The President of Brescia himself was on a scouting mission earlier this month for Under 16 and Under 15 players. A certificate of participation signed by the coaches will be presented at the end of the two weeks. Each participant will also be given a Brescia Adidas training kit (2 tops, 2 shorts, 2 pairs of socks, 1 cap and 1 bag) and will be covered by insurance during those two weeks. Blu Camp Malta is open to everyone and will be held at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and the San Gwann Football Ground. A separate Blu Camp will be conducted between 15 and 20 July at the Xewkija and Kercem Grounds in Gozo. Further information or applications can be obtained by sending an email to bresciamalta@gmail.com or by phoning Mr Edward Psaila on 99498873.

s In 1983 Ġużi Fava together with a group of helpers founded Sliema Wanderers Football Nursery in Tigne. Following the sudden death of Ġużi in 1991, the nursery was led by other chairpersons always bearing same vision and principles set by Ġużi Fava. Apart from operating in new premises, the nursery played an important role in the development of several kids and youths not only in terms of football but also socially and personally. The nursery has also invested in training its coaching staff to be in touch with the current football trends and will soon be launching a project related to a modern technical structure. As part of the nursery’s 30th anniversary, a number of sports and social activities are scheduled to take place in the coming months. The first activities are two football matches between ex-Sliema nursery players. The games will be held on Sunday 26th May and Saturday 1st June, both played at 11.30am. Ex-players, families, friends and supporters are invited to attend. Further details regarding the activities are available on the website www.sliemawfn.com or on the nursery’s Facebook page. Italian Serie B side Brescia Calcio has successfully concluded a two-day training camp and trials with four local football nurseries. Delegates and coaches from the Italian Club have been been coming over to Malta for the past few months monitoring the progress and holding meetings with delegates from the Hamrun Spartans and San Gwann Nurseries in Malta, as well as the Kercem Ajax and Xewkija Tigers counterparts in Gozo, all under the initiative of sports promoter Edward Psaila. These meetings brought about an agreement between these clubs and Brescia Calcio in which there will be an ongoing co-operation that would see Brescia Calcio sending over their coaches to conduct training sessions, scouting and trials for young players registered with these clubs. Technical and administrative staff will also be offered the possibility of travelling to Brescia to gain further training and experience. This agreement came into force this week when over 150 young players aged between 11 and 17 from the San Gwann and Hamrun Spartans Nurseries took part in the first training sessions and trials under the watchful eyes of 8 Brescia Calcio coaches and two of their representatives led by Mr Giorgio Abeni. These sessions were held at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and the San Gwann Football Ground concurrently. Similar sessions were held the following day at the Xewkija Grounds for the boys of similar ages from the Xewkija and Kercem Nurseries. Brescia Calcio aim to select 20 lads from these two sessions and offer them further screening during a second training camp in Rome in April, where the local lads will be accompanied by another group of selected youngsters from around 30 other nurseries from across Europe. Brescia Calcio are renowned for their outstanding contribution towards youth development work in the football world and rank amongst the top clubs in Italy in this field. The agreement Between Brescia Calcio and the four local clubs will be officially launched on the 8th of March, and outlines the four local clubs’ commitment to develop, maintain and further improve their commitment to the positive growth of youth football in Malta.
